A “real-life” Knives Out whodunnit, the documentary film Murder in Monaco investigates the killing of the billionaire banker Edmond Safra in 1999, in the style of a contemporary murder mystery, complete with colorful cast of suspects, more twists than any crime caper, and one of the most intriguing central characters in recent memory. The “character” is a real-life person who claimed to be an ex special forces Green Beret, and somehow found himself accused of Safra’s murder, incarcerated in prison, betrayed by his priest, and discarded by his wife.

Murder in Monaco was among the five most-watched movies on global Netflix charts in 2025 and on December 22, finished second, just one spot below Knives Out 3.
